Kayıp Bir Yıl mı? Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Koronavirüs Öncesi ve Sonrası Yabancı Dil Becerileri

Özet

Bu çalışma, iki öğrenci grubunun aldıkları yabancı dil programına ilişkin görüşleri arasındaki benzerlik ve farklılıkları keşfetmeyi amaçlamıştır. Gruplardan biri programı Covid-19'dan önce bitirirken, diğeri karantina sırasında tamamen çevrimiçi olarak aldı. Betimleyici bir nitel araştırma olan çalışmada, katılımcıların görüşlerini çevrimiçi olarak toplamak için yapılandırılmış bir görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Görüşme verilerini analiz etmek için içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda üç ana tema ortaya çıkmıştır: beklentiler, öğrenme süreci ve çıktılar. Beklentiler teması altında, iki grup için de ortak olan iki kategori ortaya çıktı: dört beceri ve akademik/bölüm beklentileri. Bu kategorilerden farklı olarak, yüzyüze grubu için dilin günlük kullanımı adında bir kategori de oluşmuştur. İkinci tema olan öğrenme süreci, eğitim fırsatları adında ortak bir kategori doğurdu. Farklı kategoriler ise, çevrimiçi grup için sınıf ortamı ve yüzyüze grubu için fiziksel olanaklar oldu. Programın çıktılarıyla ilgili olan son temanın altında iki ortak kategori çıktı: fakülte kullanımı ve fakülte düzeyindeki zorluklar. Bulgular, her iki eğitim biçiminin de avantajları ve dezavantajları olduğunu göstermiştir. Çevrimiçi ve yüzyüze eğitimin uzun vadedeki etkilerini daha derinlemesine araştırmak için daha fazla karşılaştırmalı çalışma yapılması gerekmektedir.
